The Card Through The Window Trick

by Preston on October 23, 2007

I performed “The Card Through The Window Trick” at work today. No one knew I was about to perform this trick so they wasn’t looking around. The way i did it was very simple.

I placed the card on the opposite side of the hallway and when a group of people were having their break i said wait let me show u a trick. The way I stood made them stand away from the window covering the card. I forced a duplicate card on someone and revealed the wrong card.

They did the “maybe next time” and was about to walk away when i got “angry” and flicked all the cards at the window. Within seconds they saw the card on the window and were amazed. One person even scratched the window to confirm that the revealed card was on the other side of the glass. The trick was very easy to perform with a great reaction All you need to do is setup a card and use your favorite force.

Snapple Drink Card Trick

by Preston on April 5, 2007

Effect: Magician rips a piece of a card and reveals that the rest of the card magically went inside a sealed Snapple drink.

Preparation: To perform the Snapple drink card trick you will need to do the following.

(Note: any other bottle that has a pop up safety button will work)

First you need 3 Duplicate cards to perform this trick. Take 2 cards holding them very tightly; rip off a corner of the card.

Holding the card tightly will make you make exactly even rips to both cards.

Next you will need

1. A Snapple Drink ( I perfer a Snapple Mint Ice Tea, In Bottle, 16 fl oz because of the color of the drink works better with hiding the card)
2. Microwave
3. Refrigerator

Take the Snapple drink or other bottle with the pop up button cap and take the cap off.

Next take the Snapple bottle and put it in the microwave without the cap on for about one or two minutes. You want to get the Snapple drink very hot to the point where its getting close to boil.

Next you would put whatever you wanted to reveal in the bottle, in this case the ripped card.

Next you need to put the Snapple cap back on the Snapple drink and then put it in to the refrigerator and leave it there for a couple of hours.

Snapple Fun Fact

Air expands when it is warmed. So when you reseal the cap and place the Snapple in the refrigerator it will cause the cap to get sucked down from suction.

Method: You start the performance by forcing a card on a spectator while having the Snapple Drink near you on a table.

You take the forced card and rip off a corner of the card. You need to palm the corner you cut before the trick and let the spectator have that peice and hide the one you just ripped.

After that you take the ripped card and shuffle it into the deck and you if you want you can lose the card with some double sided tape or palming it and pocketing the card.

As you pretend to be searching for the card you ask the spectator if he can pour you some Snapple.

The spectator then opens the sealed Snapple bottle (with a pop sound!) and pours the drink to reveal the card is inside the glass.

You then take the card out and the ripped piece will match perfectly.

Transporting Card Trick

by Preston on March 22, 2007

Transporting Card Trick

Effect: Tell the spectator you’re going to do a “memory test”.  Show him a card, flip it back over and hand it to him tell him to try to remember the card.

You then show him what your card is and ask him to remember that card also, flip it back over and hold the card in your other hand.

Ask him what his card was, you then reveal that you are holding the card he thought he was holding and he’s holding the card he thought you was holding.

Preparation:  To perform the Transporting Card Trick you will need a duplicate card. You place the cards in the following order.

5 of Clubs, 6 of clubs, 5 of Clubs, Rest of Deck

(Obviously you can use any cards you want)

Method: Do a double lift and show the 6 of clubs to the spectator. Place the card back over on top of the deck and have the spectator hold it in his hand.

Perform another double lift to show the 5 of clubs, ask the spectator to remember that card. Put it back on top of the deck and do a single lift to grab the 6 of clubs.

Ask the spectator which card he is holding. He’ll say it’s the 5 of Clubs, You then say “no.. I have the 6 of clubs; you have the 5 of clubs”

Have him flip over his hand and he will see the cards have magically switched places.

Top 5 Trick Decks Revealed

by Preston on March 1, 2007

“How’d he do that? It must be a trick deck!”

If you are a novice magician you may of asked yourself this a few times. I put together this list which I believe is the top 5 trick decks used in magic tricks.

1. Svengali Deck
2. Stripper Deck
3. Invisible Deck
4. Rising Card Deck
5. Gaff Deck

What is a “Svengali Deck“?

A Svengali Deck alternates between normal cards and shortened cards, and the shortened cards are all of the same card. When you riffle the deck front to back, only the regular cards are visible; when the deck is riffled back to front, only the shortened cards are visible.

A Svengali Magic Deck should not be allowed to be examined closely. A Svengali deck can aslo be detected by its characteristic faster riffle and sound.

Svengali Deck Card Tricks

An example of a trick that could be performed with a Svengali Magic Deck the spectator or you cut the deck and picks the first card. This would be a shortened card.

After the card is placed back in the deck the magician can reveal the card in many ways; 2 examples would be shuffling the deck and revealing another short card (which would be an identical card). Another example would be turning the deck over and riffling back to front revealing only the shortened cards showing that the whole deck is now their card.

What is a “Stripper Deck“?

A Stripper Deck is a deck of cards that have each card has a cut on one of the sides.

A Stripper deck can be either a”Belly Stripper Deck” or a “Hindu Stripper Deck“. The differnce between a “Belly Stripper Deck” and a “Hindu Stripper Deck” is if the cut is on the narrow or wide side of the deck of cards.

Stripper Deck Card Tricks

An example of a card trick that could be performed with a Stripper Deck would be letting a spectator choose a card and being able to immediately locate it.

This works by turning the deck over so the opposite side face the spectator; so when the card is placed back in the deck and shuffled you will be able to cut right to the card by cutting the deck on that side of the deck.

Another trick you could perform with a Stripper Deck would be separating the black cards from the red cards.

What is a “Invisible Deck“?

A Invisible Deck trick that is performed with an Invisible Deck is where you ask the spectator to tell you of any card he thinks of and it just so happens that specific card is flipped inside the deck.

Invisible Deck Trick Revealed

The cards are kept in a certain order for example odds on one side even on the other side. If the card is an even card the magician would flip the deck to the odd side where only odd cards can be seen.

Every other card in the deck is turned over. A special coating is placed on the cards so the backs will not slide if you give a lot of pressure.

So if the spectator choose the 6 of Hearts the magician would flip the deck to the odd side and would look for the 5 Of Hearts and the 7 of Hearts, then giving less pressure with his thumb he would reveal the card hidden behind the 5 of hearts flipped over. Which he would then reveal is in fact the 6 of Hearts.

What is a “Rising Card Deck“?

The Rising Card Deck is a special trick deck that obviously makes the spectator’s card rise out of the deck.

Rising Card Deck Revealed

After the spectator picks his card the deck is cut to a special section of the deck which is stuck together.

This section of cards has a special weight and string attached to a peice of 3m tape. When the card is flipped upside down the weight is forced to go down.

Depending on how much pressure you use when holding the deck it will make the card rise faster or slower.

What is a “Gaff Deck“?

Tricks performed with a Gaff Deck usually requires a good amount of sleight of hand skill.

Gaff Deck Trick

An example is moving the pips of a card and sliding it down. This trick is performed with gaff cards that are obviously fake but with some sleight of hand can be made into amazing tricks.

Another example card from a gaff deck is a “3 1/2 of Clubs” or a “14 of Diamonds”

David Blaine: Card Through Window Trick

by admin on February 8, 2007

Effect:

The performer asks the spectator to pick a card without him seeing the face and replace it in the pack. The pack is then shuffled and the performer is apparently unsuccesful in locating the card.

After a few attempts, the cards are thrown against a window in a fit of rage, on looking at the window, the chosen card is seen to be sticking to it, even more suprising is the fact that the card is on the inside of the window.

Preparation:

You will need two identical packs of cards and a willing helper.

Method:

This trick should be performed in an area with a large window nearby and with the spectator facing away from the window.

The spectator is asked to choose a card from a pack, memorise it and without showing you, replace the card in the pack.

The pack is then shuffled and a couple of attempts at “is this your card” tried followed by a look of disbelief when the spectator tells you that it is not their card ( this is al part of the act as you don’t even know the card).

After a few attempts you fake an angry outburt and making sure the cards are squard up, throw the pack broadside at the window, where they will hit the window and fal to the ground except the chosen card which is sticking to the window.

Your helper was already positioned behind the window and spectator and had an identical pack of cards. He was able to see the chosen card and took the duplicate from his pack.

A small peice of looped sticky tape ormagicians wax was attached to the duplicate card and it was stuck to the inisde of the window.

The helper should then have walked away from the window. This trick creates a real suprise but it is important to pick up the fallen cards quickly and to pocket the original chosen card.

Free Easy Mind Reading Magic Card Trick

by admin on January 25, 2007

1. “Think of any card,” it’s a wild guess but statistically a spectator will almost always think of the [The nine of Diamonds], [Ace of Spades], [The Queen of Hearts] or [The Six of Clubs]. Have each of those cards on you one way or another and reveal.

2. Fan a set of cards with one royal and the [Four of Hearts] in the center, nine times out of ten the spectator will pick the four because it’s in the center and it appears uncommon.

(i.e.[ Seven of Clubs], [Ace of Diamonds], [Four of Hearts], [King of Hearts], [Nine of Diamonds])

Great Card Trick - Psychic Test

by admin on January 4, 2007

Magic Trick Effect:

The magician tells an audience member to touch the [Ace of Spades]. The magician lays the card down and tells another member of the audience to touch the [Ten of Clubs] and another to touch the [King of Spades]. The magician asks everyone to recall his or her cards and all three are correct.

Preparation:

Memorize a few cards at the beginning or bottom of the deck.

Learn The Magic Trick:

The secret is in the fact that the audience never sees the card until the end. You begin by predicting the card that is actually on the bottom of the deck, this is why you lay the cards down. Before you lay the card down though you sneak a peak. (If you want you can say your making sure they are right, or your memorizing the deck.) Whatever card they pick if it’s not the [Ace of Spades] you tell them to find the card you just picked up. Once they touch their card you look at it again and lay it down. Of course this is the next card that will supposedly be touched, but you need the next person to touch the bottom card. There are three possible ways of dealing with this:

  • - You can touch the last card yourself
  • - You can ideally have help from a friend
  • - You can use more than 3 cards, every time a card is chosen, put the top half of the deck to the side and have them pick the next card from the bottom half usually this works pretty well, but it takes longer and if you make it work it is the most effective method, especially with larger groups of people.
